This virgin island barely 5.2 mi. long was declared national wild life reserve in 1961. The island is practically deserted; scarcity of fresh water has discouraged habitation by man. But several sheltered salt water lagoons surrounded by mangrove and palms, make it the most important natural refugee for birds. Large colonies of brown pelicans, pink spatulas, swallows, ibis and occasionally flock of flamingos.
